Schedule number to be added
Environmental claims, including product carbon footprints, carbon neutrality statements and low carbon claims, must be accurate and supported by evidence. Independent verification of a historical claim, or validation of a forward-looking claim, provides that support.
Engagements are conducted in accordance with ISO/IEC 17029, against the applicable criteria, such as ISO 14067 for the carbon footprint of products, and the rules of the relevant programme.
What you receive
A validation or verification statement that can be referenced alongside the claim.
What is covered
The same defined steps apply to every engagement, confirmed with you before work begins.
The objective, boundaries, criteria, level of assurance and materiality are agreed in writing.
Data, calculations, controls and records are examined, with site visits where the risk requires.
An independent reviewer confirms the conclusion before the validation or verification statement is issued.
Validation applies to a claim about the future, such as a reduction target or a projected outcome. Verification applies to a claim about the past, such as last year's product carbon footprint.
Yes, where the claim is made against defined criteria, such as ISO 14068-1. Verification covers the quantified footprint, the reductions achieved, and the quality and retirement of any carbon credits used.
You may state that the claim has been verified or validated by GQCL, quoting the statement reference, within the scope and period of the statement. The wording must not suggest that GQCL certifies the product itself.
