The engagement concludes with a verification statement expressing a limited or reasonable level of assurance, which you can submit to regulators, lenders, investors, customers and reporting programmes.

What you receive

A verification statement and verification report, stating the level of assurance, the criteria and the conclusion.

Process

How it works

The same defined steps apply to every engagement, confirmed with you before work begins.

  1. Step 01

    Agreement of scope

The objective, boundaries, criteria, level of assurance and materiality are agreed in writing.

  2. Step 02

    Evidence gathering

Data, calculations, controls and records are examined, with site visits where the risk requires.

  3. Step 03

    Opinion and statement

An independent reviewer confirms the conclusion before the validation or verification statement is issued.

FAQ

Common questions

What information do we need to provide?

Your GHG statement or inventory report, the methodology and emission factors used, activity data such as fuel, electricity and refrigerant records, and a description of your data management and controls. A detailed information request is issued at the planning stage.

Do you help us calculate our emissions?

No. To remain impartial, GQCL verifies GHG statements but never prepares them. Your inventory may be prepared by your own team or by any consultant.

Can Scope 3 emissions be verified?

Yes. Relevant Scope 3 categories can be included in the verification scope, subject to the availability and quality of data. The categories covered are stated in the verification statement.

Is a site visit always required?

Site visits are determined by the risk assessment. They are normally required for a first verification and for significant emission sources, and may be conducted remotely where the risk is low and the programme permits.
